Pause for Concern

Went to Norma Jeans last night to have fun night out and when I looked around I noticed  it was filled with 65% women, 30% men and 5% Dominant male women (women who display traits of men). When I say the black male is vanishing, from the killings, imprisonment, drug abuse, HIV-AIDS, suicides, diabetes and heart disease you have no-idea how serious this is. For instance, I went to film at a High school for an assembly and noticed that the class of 2014 was 70% black women.  This was truly frightening because all of the young girls were dressed like a cast member of the reality show The Real House Wives of Atlanta.  The absence black male from the future graduating class of 2014 was alarming. The Black population total including blacks in prison equal only 11% in the United States and its dropping. The film, The Best Man Holiday showed black women that there are other options. It concerns me to see a race of people dying off. I made Charm City and Raising Wolves films to show what

Sistas The New Series From DA VISION PICTURES

DA VISION PICTURES is proud to announce the Launch of Sistas, its new series that follows the lives of a core group of African American women friends since childhood and they deal with life challenges. Sistas is a conversation among women where they will deal with mild to serious life issues from cheating husbands to breast cancer. Women are leading the world right now. There are more women in the work force, more women in high learning institutions and more women taking a more dominate role in relationships. This is a woman's world. We feel as though this is a great time to roll out a show about women especially African American women who aren't always granted the opportunity to have a show centered them and their issues. The market is wide open for shows of this type and our hope is that we can provide a great program that will resonate with women world wide. So please tune into TheSistasTV on Youtube and enjoy the series. st

Too Much Pressure to Compete!

This story really bothers me because Lee Thompson Young was the prime example of a person wanting to be in the biz and he pursued his passions and was successful at obtaining that dream. I'm not sure what happened but I'd like to address th e mental and physical stress the comes along with chasing "THE DREAM". which I for one am guilty of. Life is about balance, weights and measures. I know ambition is the new sexy but please DON'T take on more than YOU can handle. Don't try to compete, or keep up with the Joneses. Far too many of us are over reaching pass the breaking point. That fast (FAST: Feasting on ALL Stimulating Temptations) life isn't for everyone, no matter the level of success. In this life you must KNOW THY SELF. Know your limits. Instead of competing, just create for the joy of it and if you want to be better, then be better than you were before. It's only when you start looking around at others (facebook) that you begin to lose your sense

Launch of Show "The Next Big Business"

Today DA Vision Pictures is launching its brand new series “The Next Big Business”. This new exciting program is about shining a light on people who no longer have a 9 to 5, came up with a great idea for a business and pursued it with vigor and determination. In this program we highlight all the benefits and challenges they have in pursuing such a daring dream. We want to give the audience a real life look at what it takes to build a dream business by reporting on those who are doing it. This show was inspired by people who lost jobs, homes, careers during the recession and decided not to let life’s challenges get them down.  Instead, they came up with great ideas and moved boldly to pursue their dreams and watch them come true. It’s been stated many times that more millionaires are made during horrific financial crisis than at any other time and that’s why we produced this great show “The Next Big Thing”. We wanted to bring forth those brave souls who carved a path for thems

Quick Tips on Distribution Deals: How "Not" To Get Robbed of Your Product

If you are an independent filmmaker here's some tips on the deals you can vie for when negotiating with a distribution company. For your first deal, try for a 50/50 split, the distribution company makes the product and place it in stores, called a PMD (Product, Marketing, Distribution) deal. Distribution companies do very little marketing for indie films, that's really up to you to push your film as hard as you can. If you do market your film it will be to websites, radio mainly. Most will offer 20/80 royalty deal which is crappy for filmmakers, but it puts your product out to the world. On this deal you can try for an advance payment, 10, 20 or 30 thousand dollars on delivery of the film. Most will talk their way to giving you nothing. At that point you're literally signing your movie away. Another option is half on delivery and half on street date (Tuesday the DVD drops). FYI: They God of war starts battles on Tuesday, which is why all products are released on Tuesday.

Launch of Web Series Adult Day Care

Adult Day Care We Series Launch As promised DA Vision Pictures is launching its new web series Adult Day Care. I, Derick Thomas developed the show about workplace antics a year ago during the filming of my latest feature, Raising Wolves. If you’ve ever had a full time job for more than a few months than you can relate to some of the odd, strange and sometimes perplexing events that happen in the workplace. This year I decided to jump in front of the camera a bit and take on a role in the web series. Acting has always been a passion of mine and I’m naturally funny or use to being laughed at with reticule. However, both acting and directing will prove to be adventurous at best as the series tackles countless problems about the workplace. The title speaks for itself. Adults can behave like children 23 three hours out of a day it seems, the 5 O’clock news is evidence of that. Why I chose the workplace you may ask because the workplace for many is a second family and for a growing n
