Sistas The New Series From DA VISION PICTURES

DA VISION PICTURES is proud to announce the Launch of Sistas, its new series that follows the lives of a core group of African American women friends since childhood and they deal with life challenges. Sistas is a conversation among women where they will deal with mild to serious life issues from cheating husbands to breast cancer. Women are leading the world right now. There are more women in the work force, more women in high learning institutions and more women taking a more dominate role in relationships.
This is a woman's world.

We feel as though this is a great time to roll out a show about women especially African American women who aren't always granted the opportunity to have a show centered them and their issues. The market is wide open for shows of this type and our hope is that we can provide a great program that will resonate with women world wide.

So please tune into TheSistasTV on Youtube and enjoy the series.

The Voice of Baltimore's Street to Screen

From Local News Cameras to Netflix Screens How a Baltimore director turned urban storytelling into a cinematic movement In the landscape of American independent cinema, few voices capture the raw authenticity of urban life quite like Derick Thomas . Also known professionally as Derick Prince , the Baltimore native has spent over two decades crafting films that don’t merely depict city life—they breathe it, bleed it, and ultimately humanize it. Thomas’s work stands as living documentation of Baltimore’s streets, struggles, and resilience—stories often ignored by mainstream studios, yet embraced by audiences worldwide. The Making of a Storyteller Derick Thomas’s journey into filmmaking did not follow a traditional Hollywood path. After earning his Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from Morgan State University and studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts , Thomas entered the industry through an unexpected door: local news . Working as a videographer-journalist , h...

DERICK A THOMAS BALTIMORE'S VISIONARY OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE

BALTIMORE'S VISIONARY OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE By Belinda Trotter-James Derick Thomas now Derick Prince always wanted to be a filmmaker. As a kid he was inspired by the actor Robert Guillaume; you may best know him on the hit television show Benson. At the age of six he has always been a fan of television and it just unfolded into the film-making business when he was a teenager. That’s when he finally got a chance to explore all aspects of film-making. “At the age of six there were not a lot of us on television and television influences children which is one of the reasons why we have so many bad influences today, but that’s another story,” says Derick. “Robert Guillaume was intelligent, articulate, he had power, he had persuasion plus he was the guy who had everything and at six years old I watched him and thought, ‘I can do that.’ He was just a great role model for that time.” When I asked what was he like as a child, he...

Birdman Inspired Me!

I went to see Birdman. It inspires! The artistic filmmaking of Alejandro González Iñárritu says one thing, "Master of the art form of film making". What command he has over the performer. Boy! I was inspire, I laughed my ass off at all the balls jokes. It was silly, deep and at points emotionally moving. Birdman wins but more importantly it inspires, or should inspire filmmakers such as myself to reach for new heights. Often I see filmmakers trying to mimic styles of other filmmakers when Alejandro makes it cool just to be you. Wow! I know at least a nomination is coming. On another note I watched some pretty amazing trailers before the film. The art house film world has some pretty cool films about to hit the market. I only hope to join the ranks with Lucid Dreams. See ya at the theater. Center seat, middle row.
